Very impressed. Revived and improved an old TV.
I bought this to revive an old 40" smart TV on which some apps just would not install and those that would ran so slow that I tended to avoid using it. The Firestick has completely rejuvenated it. There were also a few nice surprises, for example;- Once set up, the Firestick remote controller completely replaces the TV remote if you want to use only Firestick features. I've taken the ugly aerial off my roof and gone over to streaming only. I can still watch live TV via Firestick if I want to.- You can take the firestick with you when you travel and it works just the same on any compatible TV ( I haven't tried this yet).- The voice activated search works really well and it is fast. You can connect a Bluetooth keyboard if you prefer not talking to tech.Set up was painless and I find the interface easy to use and very quick to respond. On the negative side, the Silk browser is a little clunky to navigate via the remote but again, the voice input option really speeds things up. You can also connect a Bluetooth mouse to make it even easier.

Excellent Fire Stick, Easy Setup, and Great Value
I bought this as a replacement, and I’m very impressed! The Fire TV Stick HD is incredibly easy to set up and offers excellent reception—there’s no need for an outdoor aerial, which makes it ideal for a bedroom TV.This updated version comes with a significant improvement: the remote now has built-in TV controls, including volume and power, so you don’t need to juggle multiple remotes. While it doesn’t feel quite as premium as the remote with the 4K model, it’s still a great addition and works perfectly well.In terms of performance, it streams HD content smoothly, and the interface is identical to other Fire TV devices. That said, there are a couple of compromises. It’s slightly slower than the 4K version and only supports Wi-Fi 5 instead of the newer, faster Wi-Fi 6. If you have an HD-only TV and want to save money, this is a brilliant option. However, considering the price difference is only around £5–10, I’d recommend going for the 4K model if you can. It offers better processing speeds, improved Wi-Fi, and future-proofing in case you upgrade to a 4K TV later on.Overall, the Fire TV Stick HD is great value for money and an excellent choice for simple HD streaming. Highly recommended!

Great value, super fast with added extras than the 1st gen
Upgraded from a first gen amazon stick which was painfully slow, this arrived fast and is way quicker, also has shortcut buttons for apps like Netflix, aswell as now allowing the remote to turn off and on your tv and control the volume too, money well spent

Handy Device
Easy to set up and does what it says on the tin. If you have long passwords and email addresses or want to use the silk browser it really helps to have a Bluetooth keyboard as the handset is quite small. It has made my old Panasonic fully functioning TV screen into a proper TV again after the TV lost most of the catch up streaming ability as the TV gradually became not compatible with any of them, ITVX, i Player, More 4, UK play, Netflix etc.. After iPlayer stopped working I knew I needed to do something and this little device was the answer. You do need a spare HDMI socket on the TV and a power socket for the transformer that provides power to the stick everything else comes in the device box.

This instead of a new tv!
Allowed me to use apps not compatible with my relatively old smart tv , much cheaper than having to get a new tv. Works very well, easy to operate.

Works fine if used correctly
The first one of these failed but Amazon refunded without quibble and I bought another. I fitted it to my 16 year old TV and it worked brilliantly. For someone like me who only watches free to air channels its a no-brainer. One off cost - dump SKY and save £50.00 a month. Then I upgraded TV to a Samsung OLED 48" and the trouble began. I am convinced that there is an incompatibility issue between the Fire Stick HD and modern 48k OLED TVs but neither company will admit it. The problem is that the screen intermittently goes black for about a second. After several days surfing for answers and experimenting with various settings I finally got it to work but only with 720res and 60hz refresh rate- which isnt quite as bad as it sounds because the TV upscales to 4k. In case you're thinking that I should get a 4k Max , Amazon say the HD should work - ( and anyway I don't fancy forking out another seventy quid).Edit 17th May 2025: I'm wrong. Apologies to all concerned. I was activating the Fire Stick (with the Home button) without turning on TV or by using the Home button on the Fire Stick remote when TV was on. It works brilliantly if you connect the Fire Stick to HDMI1, turn the TV on, use the Source button on the TV remote to choose the Fire Stick and subsequently use the Fire Stick remote to choose what you watch.
