Great general use stripper
I recently upgraded my home entertainment system. New TV, new receiver, speakers, etc etc. I'm a newbie to all this sort of stuff but there were two things I knew for sure: 1) I wanted surround sound speakers mounted behind me and 2) I didn't have the tools/supplies to be able to do so.First order of business was to order extra long (and quality) speaker wires. Buying those speakers made me realize I had nothing to cut/strip them with. So after some research on Amazon, I came up on this product. As I do with many of my products on Amazon, I make my purchases based upon the reviews it has received. This particular wire stripper seemed worthwhile. As a newbie, I would have to say this stripper exceeds my expectations. I love how easily it strips through 16-gauge wires. I also love that it has cutters built in (but I'm sure other models have the same). It made installing my satellite speakers a snap. In fact, I so thoroughly enjoyed it that I decided to rewire all the other speakers for my receiver.I think this product would have been much much better if it was 25% smaller (in case I need to get into smaller spaces) but it worked out for me. Would I recommend this specific model to a friend? Yep!

A must have for any electronics/electrician hobbyist
I've wasted so much of my life until this came in the mail.I strip lots of wires for electronics work. It can handle home wire as well. This is a must have for anyone working with wiring. It works by grabbing the tip of the wire, about 1 inch or so down with the front tooth when you start clamping the handle. Once you fully clamp the handle, it bites just above the front tooth where its grabbing the wire and pulls back revealing the bare wire. Its nice since it doesn't exert force on the anchor point of the wire, just at the end of the wire. I can now strip about 1 wire every 1 or 2 seconds.Pros:====- Good quality, feels solid when using it- You really can't compare the convenience of this to any other wire stripping solution- Saves you tons of time and frustrationCons:====- I would look into higher quality versions for commercial applications or to frequently strip thicker wire (12 or 10 gauge).- I wish I bought sooner.

Buddy...you need this.
I was an auto technician and had a pair of these and lost them. I could never find another pair of the same quality until now. They are absolute magic for low-medium voltage auto and home wires. Once you use these you will feel like a complete moron for using the standard plier style strippers. Insert wire and with a quick squeeze of the handles you have a beautifully striped ready to use wire end. you can literally have 15 wires ready to strip in one hand and perfectly strip them all in under 8 seconds. This will work on both solid core and multi strand wires. This is not a professional tool to use on high voltage overhead power lines. I feel I had to state that due to some thinking it is and rating it low when it breaks... For home and auto use I promise you will not regret this purchase.

Great for the hobbyist, not so much the professional.
I'd give it 3 stars, but it really is incredibly cheap for what it is. Most competitor models are $30-60 minimum. The cuts aren't amazing, but it gets the job done. And since 99% of the time the end of the cable isn't going to be showing, it works fine for me. I just wish the end of it wasn't so jagged. Maybe mine got beat up in shipping? Who knows. It works. And as long as it stays $12, I highly recommend this for people who are just hobbyists like me.

Works well, inexpensive, easy to use
This is a must for any tool box. Wires are very easily to strip, the amount of jacket stripped is adjustable, adjustment for wire thickness, and you can cut wire too. I use these for automotive wiring and they work great.Great tool at a reasonable price, what's not to like?

Love it!
This is a must buy for anyone doing electronics, either hobby or professional. The build is very sturdy, you can adjust the pressure or amount of insulation being stripped, and it has a nice cutter just above where you grip it. You can strip solid or stranded wire, and I've used it on lots of gauges. If it's super fine stranded wire, you will just have to dial in the pressure carefully.

OMG so bad!
In my first attempt to use this tool it failed to strip a piece of speaker wire, I then grabbed an assortment of single wires and it failed to strip any, I adjusted the adjustment knob in back, from one end to the other without success. I then watched the stripper work my using it slowly and saw the problem, the cutting head retracts completely BEFORE the gripping head even touches the wire !! For the price I did not expect a high end unit, but I did expect it to function a little! It's complete junk, not even worth the time, effort, or cost to send back!
