Are the poke a dot cards reusable? (Can they be poked more than once?)

Totally! They have little rigid plastic dots that you pop in and then pop back the other way (the cards are designed to flip over and press the second side). They make a gratifying popping sound when poked!

Are the cards very sturdy? Are they just cardboard?

They are cardboard, but they are sturdy. i would say they are as strong as a decent board book. My 18 month grandson has not bent or damaged any of them.
