The handles appear to be fastened by Allen screws. Are they removable?

sorry, but they cannot be removed. The islands are part of what keeps the entire knife together, the actual handle some cells are glued place

What country is the knife made in?

I called the company and if I remember correctly they manufacture this blade in Pakistan, but overall I am happy with the aesthetics of the knife. Although I have not done any testing on its ability to hold an edge.

I've read some bad reviews as well, but the knife I received is beautiful and well worth the price. It could be their quality control problem. If the knife is not to your standards, send it back and the next one sent might be perfect, Amazon is great at customer service. I did that with a watch and the second one was flawless
