I'm pleased with this router. I replaced my old router that was provided by my cable company with this one and increased my internet speed by 5x.

This modem was known for having a widespread hardware problem in the intel chipset causing latency and lag, however I have experienced none of these issues nor dropped connections. The only time this unit drops connection is when the area goes down, never had a problem with the unit itself. It does run a little hot, but it has never overheated or caused any heat related issues. Perhaps they were able to fix the issue in a firmware update. (your ISP updates firmware for it when you connect it to their network, you can't on your end). If you don't care about faster internet and just want something basic, this unit will do just fine. But if you want gig plus speeds and something future proof, spend more. I have the 600mbps down plan from Xfinity and speedtests average about 650 down and 40 up. If they jack up the speed again I may have to upgrade but this still is great for plans under gig speed

I was impressed when I speed tested this modem alongside the 4 year old Cox rental "Panoramic Gateway" or some such nonsense modem (also has WiFi router. Got about 20% better speeds with the SB6190. From 500Gbps to 600Gbps. You can use it for gigabit service, provided your service provider allows a gigabit connection with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. The irony is that I only pay for a 250Gbps line. But I figure they owe me plenty because I only just realized how dual band WiFi works and that I have been renting a dual band modem for 4 years that has the 5GHz locked out and discovered the Wi-Fi wouldn't even let me change the channels to support a range extender. I also got a renewed Linksys E7350 Wifi/Ethernet router because the SB6190 only has a single Ethernet port and I need more than that. Now I can return the crappy Cox modem and eliminate $15 from my monthly bill. I can't believe how much I paid for that thing over 4 years.
