What Blockchain could do
I would recommend this book to business persons who want to understand possible applications of blockchains. The authors have detailed multiple use cases of blockchains that could impact finance, arts, music, governance, etc. I liked the parts where it explained how the double entry ledger impacted the world and why the blockchain could have a similar or more impact. Tech geeks who are looking for technology or implementation level detail would be disappointed by the book. They are better off getting details on the internet.

TEch heavy book with heavy bias...only for discerning users
Sometime middle of last year when there was a lot of chatter and news around bitcoin and blockchain, I chanced on this book in an airport bookstore and decided to catch up on the subject about which I knew next to nothing. The book had so many good reviews and with the authors being so well known I thought it would be a joy to read. After finishing it, I was sort of disappointed. For one it was more technical than I thought and I was looking for a more basic "how it works" kind of book.Secondly clearly the authors are gaga over the potential benefits of blockchain which in their opinion can solve most of the ills in the world and lead us to a golden eutopia, remove poverty, bring equality and distribute power and give control over privacy. There is one final chapter on what can go wrong or the "showstoppers" which is probably more relevant than most of the other chapters which sound idyllic. A balanced narrative seemed missing. Very few practical examples are covered which shows the technology is still in a very nascent stage and it will be many years before it becomes mainstream. The book is quite dense and not very easy reading (thats to be expected perhaps) so for non tech ppl like me that becomes a drawback.Inspite of these issues, the book was still an eye opener and there is no doubt that the technology has immense potential in many spheres if used judiciously and regulated thoughtfully by Central Banks and governments. It did help me understand this technology a bit more and why it can be so superior to existing technologies.Overall decent read but dont get swayed completely. Its good to understand its immense potential but also remain realistic about its benefits at least in the near future.

Fantastic book! But hard to read.
Gives a solid grounding on Blockchain in a simple, beginner language. The Penguin paperback has font too small to read. In fact, most Penguin paperbacks have font sizes too small to read. Eyes hurt after reading a few pages.
