Q: Is the lid detachable or on a hinge?

The top of the Heart Box comes off. It is not on a hinge.

Q: How large is the butterfly itself? I'm looking for something that will fit in a 3"x3"x3" box. (I know the whole package won't fit). Thanks.

it should fit, I think the widest part of the wings is 2 inches, I'm not sure...I gave it as a stocking stuffer to my granddaughter

Q: Does the glitter fall off the box after it is done?

Some probably will, it depends on how it is handled. My granddaughter who is 5 completed the project with her mom and loved it but she keeps her jewelry in it so most of the time it sits on her dresser in her room. I don't think that you have to add glitter. However, If there are very young children or toddlers, then they might pull the decorations off or put them in their mouths. Most of the glitter is contained by the glue. Hope this helps.
