Derwent XL Charcoal Blocks Tin - Multi-Coloured (Set of 6)

took me a while to appreciate these.i couldn't use them as pastel sticks because they were too soft and fall apart.their true personality came through when i started powdering them and mixing with water. they are basically pigment sticks.they have the flexibility and gradient spread of watercolour but much easier to control than watercolour. and they have a gorgeous grainy texture which adds a lot of drama to a painting.regarding the range of colours, they are gorgeous neutrals... three tints of black- which i really appreciate, and an ochre, white and ash pink. which explains why they called it tinted charcoal.can be used on smooth or textured paper.gets very firmly fixed with much needed fixative, for which i use a miture of fevicol and water- approximately 2:8.

When the product arrived, I was super excited to try them! I was so disappointed to see all broken and dusty pieces in the box.

The charcoal block was badly broken into small fragments..... Even the charcoal dust was all smeared on the package.... Highly disappointed.... was really a bitter experience!!....I would rather rate this product a zero

Good size. I wanted to buy thses for some time. But highly disappointed as the first time all the sticks were broken.I asked for replacement. But again one of the sticks is broken. So I'm going to keep as don't know what next replacement would be like.

One of the blocks was broken and the powder had spread a bit in the box. But I didn’t request for an exchange because I wasn’t sure if the new one would have all the blocks intact.. other than that, the quality is good. Can be used dry and with water.

Using these charcoals for artwork. They are richer than vine charcoal when used with water and so smooth. Fun to work with.

Los productos Derwent son de calidad óptima, nunca me han defraudado, aun no he probado estos carboncillos, pero se que será un placer utilizarlos y los resultados serán muy buenos. El producto llegó en tiempo e intacto.

These work beautifully. The color is rich, and applies nicely.One piece in the set arrived broken in spite of the sponge packaging inside the tin. I love the tin, by the way - I'll be happy to reuse or repurpose it when the charcoal is gone. Perhaps if Amazon packed it in a better sized box, or with adequate padding, it might not have bounced around as much, but I can't be sure it broke in transit between the warehouse and the pickup location... In the end, it's usable, just broken, so I won't complain too loudly.

I love this product but the seller didn’t package well so it came crumbled into pieces.
