Great Book But
What you should go into it with is seeing this book as an X-men story with a Star Trek cross vs. a Star Trek book with an X-Men cross. May seem subtle but it is important because even though the author is well known for Star Trek novels that is what he did here. He is a comic book writer to though, so this should be expected. What I mean is things like while Picard and his admiral friend both are "irritated" by some antics the antics themselves are well, kind of well, teenage stupid. Just like say comic book characters in a book written for teens. AS YOU SHOULD EXPECT. Tons of "adult" content in this, and by that I don't mean sex or lewd stuff but what X-Men was so great at. Give kids fighting and nonsense to teach them about real tollerance and that some people turn to the light and some to the darkness when adversity comes. There is also more of the extreme nonsense that leads to the need for hand to hand combat and high technology not working than is typical for even a Star Trek TNG novel. An alien ship that completely and totally outclasses the flag ship even though the alien race seems to be goonish morons, etc. Storm of course is the model of calm in all of it and has a big showdown at the end, showing she could of likely won the entire battle (on the planet part) herself but only ever "fights one enemy".So why 5 stars, because this is what it should be. I am in my 50s, haven't read a comic since the mid 80s but I still remember the time Storm defeated Cyclops in a duel to see who would lead by stealing his visor in the duel. So reading this was nostalgic and fun and honestly just unserious enough for a break from ST books without actually not reading one. That is how you should read this book. For fun as though it has no real impact on the "Star Trek Universe" at all. I will say if you have no affinity for X-Men you may just want to skip this one though.

An excellent crossover story.
I first owned this book some years ago and my original copy had been lost; it is very good to have it in my collection again.

A Star Trek TNG & X-Men Crossover
Well I had a good time not one of the best Star Trek novels, but it was really fun to have some X-men like Storm, Banshee or Nightcrawler. What I really love was the few scenes of complicity particularly in combat between Worf and Wolverine.

A fun little crossover
There was a bit more to this story than I expected, with a group of aliens being transformed by powers out of their control and they end up fighting another race hellbent on conquering them. For a time, I didn't really care about either race and just wanted more interaction with the X-Men and the Enterprise crew, but eventually I understood why the author used the transformed in this story. The interactions are fun, especially with Worf and Wolverine. The Picard and Storm near romance was interesting as well. I'm not that familiar with the X-Men beyond the three movies from the early 2000s so I didn't have huge expectations for this one, but it ended up being a bit better than I thought it would be.
