My pick for best game of 2014...
...and one of my top games of all time! This game has it all...unique 3rd person, open world gameplay, amazing graphics, phenomenal art-style, incredible soundtrack, personality, humor...if this game was a woman, I would marry it. First, the graphics/art style...You simply have to see this game in motion. A quick search on YouTube and you will see what I'm talking about. Some people have compared the art style to Saints Row, and there are definitely some similarities...but it would be Saints Row on steroids! The colors just POP off the screen, and you can't help but be drawn to them. I can't emphasize enough how SICK and tired I am of the same damn brown and gray color palettes used in so many modern shooters and even other genres. Sunset Overdrive spits in the face of boring earth tones, and then punches you in the face with vibrant, pleasing colors. Second, the soundtrack/audio...Again, the music will punch you in the face...repeatedly...but with an awesome, diverse Punk Rock soundtrack that I enjoyed so much, I went on Amazon Music and purchased the available MP3s. I grew up in the 90's and listened to my fair share of Punk, and this game has re-awakened that taste in me. I'm in my early 40's now, and there are some awesome songs on here that fit perfectly with the style of this game, and are even great to listen to when driving, working...whatever...these songs will pump your day up. The voice acting is great, funny, and again, perfectly fits the vibe of this game. Gameplay...At first, when this game was announced, it really wasn't a blip on my radar (I also hadn't gotten an Xbox One, or even decided which system I was going to get), then closer to release, I started seeing and hearing more about this game, and I was really intrigued. In fact, it is THIS game that is the reason I chose the Xbox One over PS4, and after playing this, I know I made the right decision. No disrespect to PS4, I really considered that system for The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, and Infamous to name a few, but Sunset Overdrive is the total package for me. It is so much fun grinding on rails, jumping, air-dashing and shooting OD mutants, and Scab Punks to such a phenomenal soundtrack, reactive soundtrack. Also, I'm sure you've heard about the weapons...they are unique, fun, and have some amazing particle, and effects. The TNT Teddy gun is powerful, and one of my personal favorites...especially against the Herkers. Microsoft made a fantastic move betting on this game as an exclusive, and I really hope it pays off. Insomniac really pulled out all the stops on this game, and it shows. HIGHLY recommended if you are a gamer. The first couple of hours, the mechanics definitely take some getting used to, but once you do, it's an absolute thrill ride you will remember for years to come. I really hope that this game does well so a sequel is in the cards.

In a Genre all it's Own, great fun!
As an older player, I have to say that for just out right silliness and laughs, this is the game. I can't tell you how many times my character died because I was laughing so hard. Filled with many cliche's and humorous homage's to other games and films. Can be a bit frustrating at times ( I am not that great using an Xbox controller so take your time) but still worth it. Totally over the top and in a genre all it's own. Your character will actually look right at you and talk to you sometimes. You can turn off the foul language or blood splatter if you wish, it is there and some folks may not want the language or blood so keep that in mind. I left it on...heh Character creation was an unexpected bonus, perhaps a tad shy on some features but still quite good. The clothing choices can be outrageous and silly which adds to your character. Good selection of clothing items right from the start and you earn more as you go, from crazy hats to shoes. For my character I just had him go barefoot just for fun and not many games let you do that. As someone who is in graphic design, I enjoyed the art style of this game. A tad bit cartoonish. Wonderful animations, and great voicing from the characters. When your character is in 'idle' he/she is always doing something, and at times gets a bit impatient waiting for you...and let's you know. My favorite line from my character...'Warrior needs FOOD!'... love it. The only con I have is this game is an 'exclusive' for Xbox One and I'm not crazy about that, otherwise, great fun, entertaining and a good way to get rid of some stress after a long day. I'm sure the kids would like this, but more of an adult game in my view.

Must have! Huge open world, constant movement, fun characters-Unique
Wow what a game this is. I'm a casual gamer and mostly use my Xbone as a video player for Blu-ray, DVD and webflix. I'll play a little here and there but am rarely fully immersed in a game, and usually I'll play an hour or so into a game and then never finish it and never go back to it. My favorite thing is that this is a HUGE open world. There's always something to discover and a task to do, so if you get stuck on one thing, you can still leave it and go work on something else. It really reminds me of how Tony Hawk was back in the day, how you could just run all over and do whatever you wanted and go wherever you wanted (that's how I remember it, anyway). And it really feels like you're on a skateboard without actually having one, because you can grind or do tricks off of basically anything solid, you bounce around like a rubber ball. You never sit still. You can't just stand around or you'll get torn to pieces. You literally have to always be moving once you put a few hours into the game. I like how it doesn't take itself too seriously, because when games do that, that fall into being clones of other games, same plot, different characters, and that always bores me. This is truly something altogether different than anything I've played and it is totally unique and as unforgettable as any game can be. I will remember this game. And I sure hope there is a sequel! The weapons are silly yet effective and fun to use. Like you only have a couple of basic, run-of-the-mill weapons. All the other weapons are made of totally random parts, like explosive teddy bears, a fireworks gun, an acid gun, etc. It's very cartoon-ish yet they're very effective. The outfits you can buy are really funny, like there's a unicorn outfit, pimp hat, etc. Just really colorful and it adds to the game as much as an outfit can. I wish the main story was longer but even after beating the main story, I still have things to do that can continue play. I'd say it took 15-25 hours of play time. I don't focus just on the main tasks. I like to explore and complete collections and do the side quests. This game isn't easy. Like the main bosses are very difficult, but not impossibly difficult even for a casual gamer. I think it's still difficult enough for a gamer of any experience level. So this is one of the best games I've ever played. Definitely the best I've played on Xbone, and definitely the most unique game I've ever played. This is a must have. It's in my top 5, easily.

Game is excellent, but has short shelf life.
This was a great game. I was trying to get into open world games, as well as less serious games, and this game fit the bill for me very well. It most certainly did not keep me on too far beyond the end of the story, but I was just so pleased by the plot lampshadings. I was getting extra tired of fetch quests in other games. This may have had a few too many fetch quests but seriously was able to still please me with humor. I never really felt so agreeable with a video game. The groups you had to help out had too much imbalance in missions. Certainly, the plot will only take a good week or 2 for the good player. The replay value is not too great either. Sure, it has some stuff to keep you occupied after the campaign, but it does not feel like stuff you need to jump straight into. I feel that if a friend of yours has a copy of this game, you should definitely borrow it from them. I did have a lot of fun while the campaign lasted, but I would strongly recommend Grand Theft Auto 5 over this for more bang for your buck.

Honestly this game is great..
Honestly this game is great...the only thing that sucked and pissed me off was how short the main story is...there are side missions but honestly there's really nothing forcing me to want to play em...great graphics and game play just way, way to short

If Ratchet & Clank had a teenage boy with Prototype that started talking to Assassins Creed.
First off, this game should be the Game of the year. Its so beautifully crafted and it was cared for. Its so obvious how much Insomniac cared about this IP. This game takes place in a futuristic Post-AwesomePacalyptic world that is here to make you the star. The game is well written and, I can't stress this enough, THE FUNNIEST GAME EVER. Its so well written, I love the quips the main character says and the banter between the unique side-characters kept me wanting to complete each mission to see what else was to be said. Not to mention Roger Craig Smith voices the main character. Me being a HUGE Sonic The Hedgehog fan I find it hilarious to hear Roger in a more mature using a variation of his Sonic voice. As I said in the title the game play resembles that of Prototype and Ratchet & Clank with just a pinch of Assassins Creed. IT WORKS VERY WELL. Its not very simple at the beginning but you will master it very quickly and love it. If you like traversal and the best elements of those games you will love this game like I do. I have no doubt that this will get Game of the year. It is without a doubt the best Xbox One game thus far. If you don't have it yet, buy it. You will not be sorry AT ALL.

Vibrant Fun
Way too short but boy what a ride it is. Vibrant colors kick butt weapons fun as heck enemies a super fast pace this is what games SHOULD be and it has its tongue planted firmly in its cheek with a pretty good sense of humor. Basically an energy drink has turned the citizens of a city into various Forms of mutants all while being pursued by Mad Max type survivalists and killer robots that work for Fizzco. Some may be put off by the Parkour style of gaining energy and special moved and atracks by running up buildings and grinding on rails power lines etc but you get used to the style and controls very quickly. And did I mention the weapons? Amazing. Solid game just waaaaay too short. I still play it though just to blow stuff up. It's that good.

PURE UNDERRATED FUN!!!!!!
If you thought this was a kids game you are so completely wrong. There's gore (you can turn that off BTW) And they do say the F bomb alot. I love this game!!! It's so much fun. there's so many things to to do around sunset city. A Terrific story with attachable and memorable characters. This is one of the best games i've ever played!! (and i never thought i'd like it). For those of you who seen the movie Scott Pilgrum vs. The World this game kinda has that same "Vibe" to it but with a different story of course. I'm wishing one day they'll make a sequel but I highly dought that unfortunatey :( But this game will aways be one of the best games in my top 10 list.
