Ultra Durable Headlamp
I have owned several headlamps, ranging from cheapies that can be found at Wal-Mart to more durable brands such as Petzl and Black Diamond but, this was my first headlamp from Streamlight. I opted for Streamlight because I wanted something more durable and reliable and I Streamlight has delivered. In not so rare cases, my Petzl's have to be shaken in order to get the light to come on, due to losse contacts with the batteries. I have not had this issue with Black Diamond or Streamlight. This Streamlight headlamp has four different lights: White Light (normal), Red Light (to conserve your night vision), Blue Light (for tracking blood at night, useful for hunters or perhaps military application), and IR Light (to be used in conjunction with Night-Vision optics). Change between lights by pulling out a knob, turning it, and letting it drop back into place. In addition, each light has four brightness levels (1-4) : I find White Light to be useful on Setting 3 and Setting 4 levels, while the other lights need to be on the 4th Setting, to be of any use, as they are not bright enough on lower settings. This is acceptable, for my application, which is mostly hiking or camping. To change brightness levels, press and hold the one and only button and let go when the desired brightness level is observed. Whatever brightness level is set, will be remembered, when you power on the headlamp, again. (to power on or off, press the one and only button, once for ~1 second, then let go) Another kudos to this headlamp design is the single-large button, to power on and off the device. Many modern headlamps have several smaller buttons which can make them somewhat difficult to operate, especially in low or no-light situations. This headlamp follows the KISS method, and that is a plus, in my book. This headlamp also comes with a helmet mount, which I would imagine is useful for military application but not very useful for civilian use. A head-strap is included, for non-helmet wear, around the head or hat/cap. The only negative remark I can give for this headlamp is the comfortability, when work on the provided strap, around the head. The headlamp itself, has no padding on the area which will make contact with your head, on the back side of the strap, which is somewhat uncomfortable. To circumvent this, one could simply wear this headlamp with a hat or cap. (or perhaps add your own padding, with foam and hot-glue, if you're feeling crafty) The CR123 Lithium batteries are used, which I already stock in plenty due to using them on various lights, lasers, and optics. You can find these batteries on Amazon, in bulk, for a good price, or over-priced at various local stores. The operators manual recommends Lithium batteries, only. While others may work, they will not provide as many lumens of brightness, nor will they last very long. Despite the comfort level, I would still recommend this headlamp to anyone who is looking for a more durable and reliable product, and is not put off by the higher price point. You get what you pay for.

The best tactical lamp set I've ever had!!!
Had it for a month now and using daily. It does everything what they say it does and more. They say it works with CR123 and AA batteries...wrong. It works with CR123, AA and AAA batteries. Of course the run time is shorter with AA and even shorter with AAA but if in sticky situation and that's all you have, you get out of the pickle. Helmet mount works like a charm. Very light wearing on your head (I wear it mostly strapped to my belt; you don't even notice it's there) and considering the competition has some stronger and brighter lamps, this is enough. You don't need all these lumens in the dark...unless you do some search-and-rescue on a really big landscape. In tactical terms you have to use less light to keep yourself concealed from the enemy anyways. Having blue, red and IR is awesome. Have dropped it by accident few times on concrete...good as new. Love this lamp!

Excellent, Compact, Multifunctional!
This professional little light is small enough to keep out of the way as well as light weight, but bright enough to use when you need it. The construction is solid. The Red, Blue and IR light work properly. It comes with a well built 16 position/direction mount that stays where you put it as well as a elastic strap mount. The battery enclosure has a decent rubber seal to keep basic moisture out. The light is bright enough when fully lit to accomplish anything I need. The distance is reasonable for the size of the LED. Great buy, great price!

Excellent piece of emergency kit
I bought this handy little light for my car's emergency kit. I wanted something that could be a flashlight, headlamp and as an emergency strobe. This little guy could do all that and it could run on either CR123A or AA batteries. I was really stoked about the flexibility in power options as CR123A batteries aren't as universally available as AA batteries. The light's variable brightness lets you dial in the correct about of light for the task at hand. The color LED modes are pretty neat too. Particularly the red at full brightness in strobe mode. Extremely visible when placed on the hood of a car and pointed at the direction of traffic. In week's backpacking trip the light the never let me down and survived a few accidental dunkings in water and the dirt and grime that comes with living on the trail. Very durable piece of kit.

Good light, poor MOLLE attachment.
Great light. I don't recommend trying to use the MOLLE attachment to hold the light on the front of a vest, or ruck. Mine was lost on the first trip out. Keep it on your head, or in your ruck and it will give you a long service life. The light itself is well built, and lightweight. The multiple battery option is a real plus. The button is silent. I also like how it starts with the dimmest setting and gets brighter vs. the the other way around. The led selector seitch is intuitive, too. Just remember the phrase, “IR (I are), Red, White, and Blue”, and you know which led your selecting in the dark using the tactile indicators. This is a good, functional light that does what it’s designed to do well. Streamlight did a good job with this light.

Highly recommend
A great headlight and helmet light. I used one of these in Afghanistan and it worked great either as a headlight just going to the bathroom at night, or as my helmet mounted light with its extra clip. Now I use this as my light for Ragnar Relay and Spartan Endurance events. It stays in place even when running long distances, it lasts forever on a battery, and the optional red light is great to save other people's vision. I've beat this thing into the ground and rolled on it over and over and its still as good as new. My buddy bought one after he saw it go through our first Spartan event together and he couldn't be happier either.

This headtorch is leaps and bounds above anything else, a single AA (or those weird stubby AA's for camera flashes) will last absolutely ages. The colour modes work really well, including the IR setting, the control for changing setting is well designed making it very hard, nigh impossible, to accidentally change colour. The simple on/off button with no flashing gimmicky rubbish is very refreshing.
