Bisto Granules : Chip Shop Curry Sauce

I love the Bisto line of products and bought this out of curiosity. I absolutely love it on Tater Tots!

The consistency of this product is really thin, it has a slight vinegary taste to it. I made around 6 oz of water and used 5 spoons of the granules and it was still really thin. This is not the same chip shop curry I remember from 15 years ago. The recipe has changed or it didn't ship well, or it was manufactured somewhere else.This shipped quickly, got here earlier than anticipated. Seller was great.

In England Chinese food is Hong Kong style which is more of an hybrid of British and Chinese Food, there’s no better demonstration of this than curry sauce and chips. There’s a Chinese takeaway near my parents house in England that has the best curry sauce and chips I’ve ever had, admittedly there’s a lot of other takeaways that has great curry sauce and there’s plenty that have great chips but getting them both right is an art in itself. This sauce of course in no way compares, but for some reason I’ve always been a fan, mainly because I don’t take it too seriously. If You want something closer to an authentic taste the best available is the Mayflower Chinese sauce mix. McConnells is good, but it’s closer to Indian curry than Chinese which is what this sauce mix attempts to recreate. I’m not much of a curry snob and tend to cycle through them all, including the house brand. These sauces are what they are, nothing recreates the experience of walking out of the takeaway with a warm parcel of Chinese curry sauce and chips on a cold night watching coronation street.

Couldn't be easier. Just mix with hot water and pour on your chips. Flavour was deemed authentic by anglophile offspring. Also great on burgers and nachos.

I lived in England for 3 years and not once did I eat chip sauce. I did eat at fish and chip shops often, but never saw the need to add something like this curry to it. I like a curry, but these granules taste to me exactly like someone took a beef bouillon cube and mixed it with water. Thick enough, but the taste is nasty to me. Tossed out what was made along with the tiny-ish container (looks bigger in the photos of the ad here). Just as well. Fits into the trash can easier. I am sure it tastes fine if you like that sort of thing, but the British ate a lot of things I never tried in all 3 years I lived there because they just didn't sound good to me, and I suppose curry chip sauce was one of them.

Perfect addition to some fish and chips

I tried and tried to duplicate the unique flavor and texture of Chip Shop Curry.Trying an instant mix was a last resort, certainly it would be an artificial tasting slop.SO happy to be SO wrong!This easy mix is smooth, with a buttery curry flavor. It has a warm golden color that is beautiful on cauliflower, as a dip, and of course, spread over thick cut steak fries.Or any potato, from mashed to hashed.Very happy to find it here, and much cheaper than a plane ticket!
