It would be difficult to use in the car or moving transportation, but I gave it a 4 in that section for how easy it is to transport. The board is its own box, which folds in half and secures with little latches. Inside is a foam container with custom holes for each piece to fit into, which is nice for keeping track of pieces, but also holds them in place so they don’t roll around inside the box. There’s also a slot for the instruction cards — which are very similar to Pokémon cards in the way they are presented. Perfect for kids (or adults, let’s be honest) learning how to play. There is a cardboard box it fits into also if needed. The material is New Zealand pine — which has the weight of pressboard, but I assume is more durable. Each side of the board is a little less than an inch tall, so a little less than 2” when closed. The board itself is about 15” x 15” (using my knuckles to measure it out). Folded, it’s 30” x 7.5”, roughly. The box gives measurements in centimeters. There is a small instruction manual too — one page, folded in half. Not a lot to it, but it fits inside the closed board for easy access if needed. I’m very impressed with this product.

I bought this to teach my 5 y.o. daughter and it is perfect. As others have mentioned it's an attractive and sturdy wooden material set. It opens and closes nicely and lays flat on the table. Each piece stores in it's own place. I like its dimensions, it's not a too-small set like some of the others we looked at, it's a decent size. Too many duplicate cards, but that is not a deterrent from getting the set, I still give it 5 stars. Perfect for the money.

It's about what you would expect for the price. Not a bad purchase. The only things I will call out are: 1) The board doesn't quite line up flush when folded in half. I'm not sure if the hinges aren't positioned quite right or the board isn't cut perfectly. Small issue that's barely noticeable and you can't tell when it's unfolded to play. 2) The board has no finish on it. I would have expected some sort of clear coat over the playing surface but it appears they just sanded it down smooth and called it good. Overall I'm not disappointed. This is just a set to have around the house for game night. If you're looking for something to impress or display, pay more money.

Very nice chess set. My twelve year old son requested a chess set. So I jumped at this opportunity to buy him a good set. I was surprised he asked for this since he normally is all video games. I had not played chess in many years so looked for a set that would be easy to teach the game. This set offers cards to show the moves of each piece this made it easy to relearn the game and teach. We opened and played immediately with no difficulty. My son loves the game and said it was more exciting then some videos games he plays. He picked up the game quickly and has beat me several times. I have to say it is becoming a favorite in our house. Great beginner set. Highly recommend.

I love this set! It was not what I expected for the price. It is light, but doesn’t feel flimsy. I was looking for a decent set at a cheap price and I got better than that. I would highly recommend this for beginners as it comes with rule cards for how the pieces move. This is not the type of set that is going to be the centerpiece in a fancy room, but it’s great for someone who wants to start playing regularly and wants a full size set that travels well.

This is a very good classic wooden chess set. I was looking for a chess boarding set and I have found this excellent set. This is a foldable boarding chess set made with New Zeland Pine wood and it's come with 60 card rule about chess game. Also, it is come with box storage made with wood as well. I really like it, because, all the pieces are made handcrafted. It is a perfect as a gift and playing outdoor in summer or at home any time.

The board and case are awesome. With foam cut out to hold the pieces, way better than I anticipated. And the pieces are really nice carved wood, not junky plastic or cheapo materials. My daughter loves it. The cards are cool but not required and 10x each piece is overkill (10 cards for rooks, 10 for pawns etc) but I guess it's cool for kids that have the potential of losing them

Our grandsons really enjoy using the board and defeating their grandparents at chess! I'd tell you how old the boys are but it would embarrass the grandparents! The board came with a small piece of wood broken off the corner of the side of the board, but it was easily glued on and barely noticeable afterward. We really like how the pieces fit firmly in their felt lined spaces on the back of the folding board, so they don't move when stored or when we're traveling with the board. The latches also close firmly to keep the board from falling open. Overall, this is a good purchase for a good price.
