Praying with the Psalms: A Year of Daily Prayers and Reflections on the Words of David

Very encouraging when you are struggling each day with depression
I own 9 devotionals but this is by far my favorite. Each day I can read 1 minute of a Psalm and reflect on the comment or reflective prayer.Only issue I found in my copy was a duplicate set of pages of February 14-19 right next to each other, but no harm done, you just skip over those couple pages and February 20 and onward continues.I would buy this again and recommend it to everyone I know.

Great gift.
I bought this for a friend who lost his wife. I was hoping it would help him every day, and the price was on point.

A Favorite book of mine
This book is a favorite of mine! One year, as I read a psalm a day, I had this book in my hands, every day of that year. It has 365 devotional thoughts and prayers from the Psalms. It’s just what someone would want, if they’re prayerfully “reading” and launching their prayers from the Psalms, the “Church’s prayer book”; excellent, if you’re not in need of in-depth commentary on the Psalms but open to pithy, devotional, and inspirational thoughts from one of America’s prominent pastors.

A wealth of wisdom
For the first 65 years of my life, I avoided the Psalms because I didn't understand them. Then I stumbled onto this book and it has become part of my daily devotional for the last 6 months. Eugene Peterson is teaching me to appreciate the poetry, artistry, intense feeling, and power of the Psalms. This book is a life-changer.

Great intro to the Psalms
This is a great day- to- day book to quickly read one Psalm and gain a deeper understanding of specific passages within a longer Psalm. I love this book and would recommend it to beginning Bible readers to make the Psalms more approachable but also for more experienced Bible readers to get a new twist on supplemental prayers or insights into the themes the Psalmist addresses. This is a very light and portable book, it's easy to throw into a purse or a backpack or briefcase for "on the go" study.

Wonderful
Wonderful way to spend the year reading the psalms. Seeing it as poetry, prayer, confession and finding the true nature of God. Simple enough to follow

Lacked Peterson's usual detail!
I'm a big fan of Peterson's words having read a number of his books. I also love the Psalms and have been reading them on repeat for the last five or so years.Peterson's understanding of the Psalms is not in question, it was more the lack of depth in each day's reading. The book covers all the Psalms over the year, so the longer Psalms are spread over multiple days. Each day is headed by a phrase from the psalm of the day, encouragement to read all or some of it, 2 verses are provided, a very brief reflection, and then a short prayer.I believe if you're new to studying the Psalms, I'd encourage you to start by reading the complete Psalm, along with something a bit more detailed and then perhaps use Peterson's book in tandem. I suspect many readers enjoy this book due to it being short and therefore quick to read each day. But I'm not sure that';s the best way for discovering more of this beautiful book of poems and songs.

Simple but profound. Your soul will thank you, or shall we say, you will be thankful to the One who gave you a soul to worship Him with.
