JPS Hebrew-English TANAKH: Cloth Edition Review: Excellent Tanakh - Very nice Hebrew/English Tanakh. The translation is much more accurate than any Christian Old Testament. They are all very inaccurate. King James being the worst and most convulted. Great job, JPS! Review: Finally, the correct format I've been searching for! - I have made the commitment to begin learning Hebrew. This version gives me the side-by-side comparisons with the Hebrew and English languages. I had previously purchased what I was being led to believe was this version of Tanakh in this format several times only to have to go thru the return process. Other sellers were describing this edition as hardcover but when arrives it is not, but the cheap imitation leather softcover edition and for a similar or even more cost as this edition. This one is, finally, the correct format I've been searching for. A hardcover cloth edition padded and then overlayed with a quality leatherette material. If that is what you are looking for then this one is the correctly described edition.

JPS Tanakh
Beautifully bound -- large size with elegant gold edging. Yes, the paper is thin, but there is a lot of content -- if publishers had used a thicker paper, book would have stretched into 2 volumes and cost would have gone up. Thinner paper made this edition affordable for most people. Translation is very interesting. The print is not as small as some reviewers have complained -- I wear bi-focals and can read it easily with glasses or without. I am very happy with this inspiring purchase -- bought it as a Hanukkah gift for myself and it brings me peace whenever I open it.

GORGEOUS!
I ordered this tanakh bc im a judaic studies minor and wanted to read the stories with ease. I purchased one in old english and it was quiet hard to read for me. First of all its GORGEOUS! The navy blue with the gold accents is absolutely stunning. It was in perfect condition, ik some people had issues with the condition but i had no problems. It was delated shipping, but at NO fault of the company. We were hit with the polar vortex so my 2 day shipping was delayed, however i did get it 2 days before it was said to be delivered after it got a bit warmer. So far i love it! No issues, no complaints, just a gorgeous tanakh.

Very nice JPS Tanakh
I bought this JPS Tanakh to 1) replace my other version that doesn’t have the Hebrew and is not written from right to left and 2) to add to my library. I have an Artscroll (Stone Edition), a Koren, and now 2 of the JPS Tanakh’s. I like the feel of this Tanakh (although I love my Artscroll) and find the pages of nice quality. The only thing I can “complain” about would be the Hebrew font is a tad small, thus seeing the nikkod is tough in some instances. Overall, I am very happy to have finally purchased this Deluxe JPS Tanakh!

Beautiful book, font a little small for old eyes.
I had a presentation Hebrew/English Tanakh given to me when I was 9--such tiny print I couldn't read it. So, I've been using an Artscroll Hebrew Tanakh and my JPS Study Bible for Torah study. Am so happy to have the JPS translation and the Hebrew together in one volume! These 75-year-old eyes have difficulty distinguishing the vowels, but that's what magnifying glasses are for, I guess. To have a much larger font, the book would be too large to be practical. Now, for those Christians who bought this without any idea of what they were buying and gave bad reviews: 1. This is a translation of the very scriptures Jesus of Nazareth used--because he was a Jew. At no point in this book was Jesus of Nazareth ever mentioned or even implied. He hasn't been left out. He was never in there. 2. The translation is from the oldest known texts. Some verses found in later translations used later sources which had verses added--both Christian and Jewish scholars agree this is the case. This translation is more accurate for leaving the accreted verses out. 3. Hebrew is read from right to left, so a Hebrew book opens left to right. It is not printed upside down and/or backwards. Genesis is not in the back. It is printed exactly as it should be. 4. As to the name of God, which many Christians seem to think they know: that name was known by one man--the high priest--and he spoke it one day a year ALONE in the Holy of Holies. When the Romans destroyed the 2nd Temple in 70 c.e, they killed the high priest and his assistants. No one to this day knows how that name was pronounced, although there are many theories. Jews don't print the tetragrammaton in translation, even in the Torah. We often don't spell it out completely in Hebrew. When we're speaking (as opposed to praying) we don't use the Hebrew word translated as LORD in the Torah. No one is "hiding" anything. We are being respectful of something eminently holy.

Everything good!
Bough this to replace my other JPS Tanakh that I’ve had for almost 20 years. Came sooner than estimated & still sealed in the shrink wrap. The only thing I with JPS would have done is put the vowels for the grey text where the written tradition of the scriptures are different then what is recited. Appreciate the publisher providing footnotes when the translators were not entirely sure what the Hebrew meant. If the publisher will reissue their current translation from 2023 as a Hebrew-English with the grey text fully voweled they’ll have a buyer! Or even if the grey text remains without vowels I’ll still invest in a Hebrew-English RJPS Tanakh. Haftarah readings from the Prophets clearly noted in the back. Helpful intros to the Hebrew text & the English translation.

Beautiful and Practical Tanakh
This Tanakh features the JPS translation, which, while not perfect, is a fairly reliable standard in the Jewish and scholarly world. The print, both English and Hebrew is nice and clear. This particular edition is very attractive, which makes it a wonderful family Bible or gift. It's currently my go-to bar/bat mitzvah gift. I have one for myself, and it's the Tanakh (I own a few different editions) I use the most.

Very inaccurate translation. My investigation shows the Septuagint is the only accurate translation of the Old Testament. Returned the book.

I found the Jps Hebrew-English Tanakh very interesting . I was glad to recive it as it is an old testament and good for when you do your studding. It is in both Hebrew and English like it says.

I was searching for a decent quality Tanakh for my studies of the Torah, and this edition does the job perfectly. It’s bound in a bonded leather hardcover that is padded which marks for a comfortable reading experience, but does feel cheap. Plus there is some ghosting through the pages, yet this isn’t too much of an issue. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for an academic translation of the Tanakh in a decent quality hardcover which will last a lifetime, this is a good pick.

As a Scripture-Centric muslim (muslim = submitter to God) and rejector of religion and man made laws, I accept the Tanakh as from God and authentic. Therefore I decided to get me a hardcopy version and am really amazed of both the looks (the book is actually black with golden page edges) of the book and the translation itself. Would definitely recommend. Allah/Y**H bless.
