Boiling water in 3mins
Perfect for when our stove broke. Heats up water to a boil in 3mins on high. Worked with all my pans just fine.

Stays very hot for a long time
My stove died, and I got this hot plate to tide me over until I can get a new range. I picked this one because it has handles so it can easily be moved even when the burner is hot. This heats very quickly, and water comes to a boil even at the "Low" setting. In fact, I can turn it off and unplug it and the water will continue to boil for at least five minutes. If I want to simmer something, I need to set the dial somewhere between Low and Off, and I still need to check the food frequently to make sure it isn't burning on the bottom of the pan. The burner stays hot for 20-30 minutes after the unit is unplugged, which is longer than any electric stove I've had. This hot plate is meeting my need, but I wish the temperature range were better calibrated.

Defective knobs on TWO units!
UPDATE: I opted to have a REPLACEMENT sent for the defective one, and THAT ONE AS WELL had crooked/defective knobs, including one that was making a scraping sound from the back of the knob scraping against the metal unit on the last two turns because it was screwing in too close to the base! I just retured the second one, and noticed that Amazon wouldn't permit a third to be sent online. I phoned, and the nice woman said I "could" on some items and she could do it for me, but after she put in the details of what was wrong with it, it came back that Amazon would not permit any more sales of the item due to the nature of the defects until they investigated, so I was forced to get a refund and they won't send any more. What gets me is that THIS UNIT/LISTING was supposedly the "upgraded one," even though the model number is the same as their other listing for the same item, but they don't say that the other one was improved somehow and listed elsewhere (here). If this is the UPGRADED item, I think Techwood and I need to part ways, and I'll now try the Amazon Choice selection I should have gone with in the first place, at half the price. PRIOR REVIEW: I haven’t had this thing in my house for more than five minutes and I’m already seeing dangerous defects in the unit. I am uploading videos and photos of my specific areas of concern, and here are the descriptions of what you will see in them: 1) The knob on the left (on/off) has a very loose connection and rocks back-and-forth both horizontally and vertically just by lightly pressing your finger on it, so much so that the side you press actually touches the base of the unit! That’s dangerous! It does makes a light click sound when you toggle the knob on/off. 2) The knob on the right (min/max heat control) makes it’s “click” sound at around the #10 indicator mark! It’s not even in between where there’s a broken line and a solid line, if it’s even supposed to be THERE instead of at the beginning of the “MIN“ indicator, which sounds like a normal placement to me. There is no reason for that click to happen at such an odd place in the knob (nor does the booklet mention one), so it appears this right side knob was also not put on correctly. It seems likely that the click sound was supposed to tell you when the temperature control knob was completely OFF, at the MIN indicator, not at random nonsensical spot in the middle of the indicator knob! You would have to be insane to plug this thing in at this point because these two defective connections are screaming “FIRE“ to me. I wasted the entire day waiting for this thing, only to receive a unit that is dangerous to operate.

MYSTERY HOTPLATE FROM CHINA
THINGS I DID NOT LIKEThis item arrived well-packaged, but to my surprise, there was NO instruction booklet or warranty card inside at all. So, I have no idea what the warranty is, or if there even is one. And, it came from China, so I have no idea who even to contact, or where, if it malfunctions. That is a big issue. Maybe the manufacturer will read this and send me an instruction booklet and warranty card?QUESTIONABLE THINGSOn the top of each hot plate burner was a brief explanation about the first use of the burner and it smoking, which it said is normal for the first time. My unit did NOT smoke at all when I turned it on the highest setting for 3-5 minutes as suggested by the sticker. That made me wonder if it was a returned item. I had to turn the control knob well past the halfway mark to get some good heat coming up, but then it heats quickly. The unit is a bit pricey compared to many, but maybe because it is an infrared heat and you don't have to worry about EMF emissions. It is longer than other units (21.5 inches), so make sure you have enough room on your counter before you buy it.THINGS I LIKE ABOUT ITUnlike most all the other hot plates out there, this one has a nice long cord (44" not counting the prongs that go into the wall on the plug at the end of the cord). That's a good 8-10 inches longer than some other units. That gives you much more flexibility in placing it as it doesn't have to be right by a plug. It also has a smooth glass top for each burner, which I like. In addition to the two control knobs with which you can adjust the heat intensity, there is a third on-off knob in the back of the unit. The body of the unit is a handsome silvery color. But, be careful because it does get hot too.WHAT MADE ME CHOOSE THIS UNIT?What prompted me to buy this unit was the fact that it heats by infrared, which does not give off EMF radiation and because it has smooth glass top burners, each with 900 watts of power and a wide plate. I also like that the glass burner tops are surrounded and sunken into the metal casing, which holds them in place. The last hot plate I had did not have that feature, and after a few years of use, the burner top actually came off. So, when I noticed on the photos that the burner plate was surrounded by metal casing, that was a big plus for me.There is nothing in the description on Amazon about the length of the cord and Rufus the A.I. was clueless too. A.I.s are actually stupid and only know what is programmed into them. I really needed a long cord, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the length and thickness of it. So, so far I'm good with this unit, but I've only cooked with it once so far. You can get the rest of the details you need in the product description on the Amazon listing.
