Worth the money.
I was hired as a GM for a optical company. I had zero GM experience. It definitely jump started me for my job by A LOT. I was concerned it was not worth the money since this is not a cheap book. However, it was definitely money well spent! I am very pleased how detailed and understanding the information was. Would recommend anyone to pick it up thats going into the optical industry. Some pages I skipped over was the optical equipment since I will never be touching those. However, everything else was definitely a gift of insight!

Good book
Great training manual. The book is easy to read and had large print with pictures/diagrams. The reason for the 4 stars is that I received the book a little tattered and a part of the spine was torn. Not enough to bother returning, but enough to state because the book was expensive.

Best business investment!
This is the best purchase I've made for my practice. A properly trained employee is invaluable and this book is the perfect way to get there. It's great for a new employee with no prior optical knowledge as well as the veteran Optician who could use a refresher, not to mention a good refresher for the Doctor who spends little to no time in the lab. EVERYONE in the office should read this book annually to stay abreast on the information and to ensure everyone in the office is speaking the same language, i.e. using the same/appropriate terminology. I highly recommend this book to every practice owner.

Excellent Book
As an optometrist for nearly 20 years, I’ve used many resources in my career. This book has now become indispensable in my practice. It succinctly presents principles related to eyecare in a straightforward manner, which then helps me to communicate important ideas clearly to my staff. Patients receive precisely measured and most comfortable eyeglasses from my office as a result. Worth every penny!

An excellent overview for the new optical assistant
The Optician Training Manual by David S. McCleary covers everything the new optical assistant needs to know to get up and running quickly. The information is presented in an easily understood format without neglecting some of the more technical aspects of prescription lenses and ophthalmic dispensing that are necessary learning. Focus Point boxes scattered throughout the book summarize essential aspects of ordering and fitting glasses. There are a number of checklist templates and worksheets that can be copied for use that will help take a dispenser from being good at their job to great. There are unfortunately a number of proofreading errors that weren't caught in the editing stage of the book's production and should be corrected in future editions. Errors such as using the word to instead of too, edges instead of edged, missing or incorrect words (mostly articles such as by or been), and the occasional missing comma or period. None of these errors distract enough to cause much reading disturbance, but the errors are there, and for such a price-point as this, they should be fixed.
