LOTS & LOTS of room for Improvement
Obviously the motivation for buying this is ultimately to improve the quality of sleep by getting a better understanding of what is going on with your sleep & what impacts it. For me this has been an epic fail! All I have learned is that when I wake up with a feeling of dense fog & pressure in my head it's because I didn't get near enough REM sleep which happens nearly every night. When I wake up feeling more physically tired it's because I didn't get enough deep sleep. So I have some validation & a tiny bit of insight but nothing to enable me to actually improve my sleep. What's sad & frustrating is that it would be so easy for them to improve the software so that it actually helped you achieve better sleep. In the very beginning it ask a bunch of lifestyle questions. I remember answering questions about smoking, drinking, caffeine intake etc. I'm LDS (Mormon) so I don't consume any of those things yet in spite of indicating that in the beginning I am asked about them again every night. Since those are not applicable to me why not replace those questions with ones about things that potentially impact my sleep like how heavy was my last meal. How many hours before sleep did I eat a heavy meal. What did I eat. Did I eat a snack before bed. If so, what & how much. Did I nap today. etc. That's another frustration..... Why can't I track & record my naps? On Sunday & other rare occasions I take a long (2 - 4 hour) nap. Do I get any deep sleep when I nap? Do I get any REM sleep when I nap? I wish I knew. How does the frequency, duration & timing of naps impact the quality of my sleep at night? I wish I knew.I seriously question how accurately it tracks my sleep. I get up to pee every night & fairly often am out of bed for 15 - 30 minutes but only rarely does it record "out of bed." That makes me wonder how accurately it records every other aspect of my sleep. There are many times when it shows that I was in light sleep when the reality is that I was wide awake but laying still desperately trying to sleep.I think they need to change the way the "sleep score" is calculated. I typically get a score in the 80s or low 90s but quite often get inadequate deep sleep & NEVER get enough REM sleep which is why I wake up feeling TERRIBLE! How is it then that I get such a high score?I wonder if the bio-motion sensors are actually interfering with REM sleep since the symptoms I describe have actually gotten worse since using the SleepScore Max.I sincerely hope the folks at SleepScore Labs will recognize the shortcomings of their software & work to improve it. Without those improvements this is little more than a novelty item. With the needed improvements it could be a MUCH more useful tool to aid in achieving better quality sleep. As a side note: the app worked flawlessly in the beginning but after the last Android update it crashes about half the time. (I'm using a Note 8) I'm sure they will fix this soon.

Great feedback with minimal intrusion
I got this product to learn what my sleep patterns were. It breaks down my sleep patterns throughout the night and hellos me figure if there might be something I can do to improve my sleep quality. There is a lot of overall data provided, but there is nothing that provides immediate feedback on the numbers you receive. For example, it gives you the amount of rent sleep, but no indication of the account is good or not.Customer super was extremely helpful and provided answers to all my questions, but I did need to initiate it.Overall, I am very happy with the unit.

The Best Sleep Tracker
I have the following sleep trackers: Oura ring; Whoop band; Withings Sleep; and About 50 different fitness trackers (Garmin, Morepro etc.) -- BUT this product is the best tracker for sleep. It detects wake up periods with deadly accuracy and identifies REM and Deep sleep also with keen accuracy. The app is fun to use and has even more information that wasn't even advertised involving brain rest and body rest! If you want a very accurate product that is easy and fun to use -- that will help in your struggle with Mr. Insomnia -- I recommend this product very highly.

Not worth the cost; stick with free apps
I've been looking to find a device that could replace the Sense by Hello that I used to have - sleep tracking without having to wear anything that might infringe on my sleep, that works independently enough to let me keep my phone far away from my bed and provides actionable insights about my sleep. After extensive research of available sleep tracking devices I thought this one might be it. I was wrong. This works fine as a basic smart alarm, which is why I gave it 2 stars. You put in a wake time and it'll wake you up within 30 minutes of that time whenever it decides that you're in your lightest sleep. That’s the best thing I have to say about it.It seems dubious that the sleep tracking is really as accurate as the company asserts. There have definitely been times when I've lied awake in bed and the app reports that I was sleeping during that time. It seems to have really specific placement needs and it's very light so any small bump can knock off its alignment. It tells me 2 or 3 times per week that I have the positioning wrong but it managed to capture a score anyways, so that doesn't instill much confidence either. The device records whatever signals it gets from your body, light levels, temperature, and noise. However, within the app you get very little of that information. It shows you your sleep score and an average of light and temperature. If you want to see full information from the night, you have to log in to the SleepScore Portal on a computer. From the portal, it seems that the company is stuck halfway between its original SleepScore app and the new SleepScore Max ecosystem. The portal displays options for things that aren’t available in SleepScore Max, like a screen where it prompts you to select a goal but every option is unavailable and it directs you to “the app”, but there is no option to set a goal in the SleepScore Max app. There’s also a feature called “Sleep Stars” which seems to be an awards function that only exists on the website. The portal experience actually seemed so different from the app that I contacted customer support to make sure I had the “premium” account that was mentioned because I felt like I was missing something. Customer support gave me advice that didn’t make sense with what I saw in my SleepScore Max app and after a few emails I realized they were giving me instructions for the SleepScore app rather than SleepScore Max. After telling the support agent that I had SleepScore Max, I was finally informed that all SleepScore Max users have Premium for life, although it’s still unclear what that gets me.One of the biggest reasons I decided on the SleepScore Max was for the “personalized, science-based advice”. HUGE letdown. The Sleep Guide feature is neither “personalized” nor “advice” - it simply gives random generic facts about sleep with the occasional statistic from my sleep mixed in, e.g. “Last night, the dream-intensive REM stage was 21% of your sleep” followed by general facts about REM sleep. It’s even more confusing when I’m given posts like “How do moms sleep?” and “Back to School Sleep Survival Guide!”, despite the app knowing that I am a male in my late 20s based on the extensive questionnaire I filled out at the very beginning. I haven’t gotten any direct, concrete suggestions about what I should change to get better sleep, despite all the information collected at the beginning and every night when I start tracking, which is a wonky experience on its own (why is caffeine intake measured in “cups”? If I have an 8oz cup of green tea one day and a 16oz cup of coffee the next day, am I supposed to say that’s 1 literal cup each day? 2 cups by volume? Try to calculate the ratio of green tea to coffee and say it’s 4 cups comparatively??) All of this is when the feature is even working; at this point it has been 30 days since my last “insight”, and this isn’t the first time this has happened. This also claims to offer “trends” to inform you how different things affect your sleep. Basically it just shows the averages of your sleep on nights that you’ve entered a certain variable. This leads to interesting results, like the portal saying my average SleepScore is 92 after 6 drinks and 86 after 0 drinks. Guess I better start drinking more since it apparently leads to better sleep! Finally, as I mentioned earlier, I wanted a sleep tracker that would let me distance myself from my phone at night. Unfortunately, the alarm function uses your phone speaker, so you end up looking at your phone last thing at night when you set your alarm and then again first thing in the morning to turn the alarm off.Overall, I’m very disappointed in this product and I regret spending $150 on it. For me it definitely hasn’t been worth the cost and it hasn’t changed my sleep in any way. I’ve found that free apps do just as good of a job (and sometimes offer even more - snore tracking? sleep trends based on location and weather?) and are generally less awkward to use, so I’ve stopped using my SleepScore Max altogether and it’s now just a $150 box in my night stand since it feels wasteful to throw it away.

Great quality sleep
I purchased this device because I have trouble sleeping and wanted to know how to improve my sleep. I love all the helpful tips, being able to track my daily routine, know how much sleep I’m getting and the quality of sleep. It’s great seeing the difference sleep cycles and being able to click on them to see what each cycle means. Another great feature is how it detects the nose level and temperature in my room. What a great device!
