toolant 127pcs SAE/Metric Tap and Die Set, Ratcheting SAE Metric TAP and Die Set Standard with Drill Bit Combo for Threading

As a hobbyist who makes or modifies various cases for things like electronic nixie tube clocks etc, I find I often have to make threaded holes to screw in pillars as mounts for small boards and suchlike, This can be a pain if you don’t have the right sized drill or tap to work with, so I was grateful to be able to order the toolant M3 x 0.5 Tap and Die Set with 2.5mm Drill Bit as that is one of the common sizes for the mounts or bolts I use. The set is supplied in a small cardboard box which is branded through a label which also has the size printed on it for reference. Inside the box is a small press-seal plastic bag which contains the tap, die and the correct drill bit to use for tapping out the hole once drilled. All of the components in the set are very clearly labelled and appear machined to a quality finish – they are not branded as such but do look the part. Having used this one for a recent task I feel they are a good addition to my DIY toolset. I do not have a price at this time as none is displayed so cannot comment on the value proposition of the set.

I have had Toolant tools before and I will say I think they are brilliant. Although this review is in reference to the M3 x 0.5 tap and die set complete with the correct size drill that should be used, I needed to replace all my taps as they were all getting past it, some missing, some blunt etc. over a couple of days I ordered one of each size between M3 and M12 so this review applies to all of them. As is the usual standard with Toolant tools these are made from high quality steel. Having already used the M5 tap, M8 tap and die to create new threads and the M8 die to clear an existing thread. All the cutting edges are very sharp and make the work very easy. Once the hole was taped, the bolts I used from my own stock ran in and out smoothly, there was no slack between the thread of the bolt and the thread of the tapped hole. At this point I want to point out that although I am calling this a set, it's not. It's a collection of 10 taps, dies and drills I have put together in one box. As they are sold individually by their metric size you don't get a tap wrench or a die stock, I have used existing ones I already had. I am very happy to highly recommend all these drills, taps and dies.

I have been looking for a decent tap and die set for a while so when I saw these I ordered them for using with my model making and for cleaning bad threads.I ordered a full set of these from M3 through to M12 and since they didn't come with a holder or case I designed and 3D printed the nifty little stand in my photo which holds them perfectly ready for use.So far I have only tested the M3 and M4 taps and the M5 die and drill but they cut through steel with hardly any effort on my part and produce a lovely thread which is clean and precise.Since the dies are a hexagon shape on the outer edge they can be used with a socket or spanner which works really well for chasing bad or rusty threads, for a precise cutting of a new thread on a raw steel pole I do need to purchase a handle for them but I have found that those handles are not very common as most available seem to be only for the round type.The taps are of a standard fitting so I have used my old handle for them although that is old and a little rusty now so I will be replacing it to have a nice new one to match these superb taps.Using the drill bits is a joy, they start cutting through steel with no slippage and create a perfect hole with no burrs ready for tapping a thread and as these are matching sets I can be sure that I'm using the correct drill bit for the tap size required.Terrific tap, die and drill bit sets,Recommended.

This tap and die set did the job i needed perfectly and is well made.You get a nice solid HSS drill bit which is the correct size to create enough of a hole but leave a good amount of material for you to create a nice screw thread in it with the included tap. In this set the drill bit is 9.5mm and the tap is M11 size so 11mm.The tap is very solid made from a premium alloy steel with a hardness of up to 63HRC and this means it does a great job at creating screw threads in wood (soft to hard are no problem) as well as metal up to a certain thickness. I used them on 6mm thick steel, and they were fine.The die is a good solid shape and made from the same premium alloy steel with a hardness of up to 63HRC and you can put it in a spanner to get good purchase on it to turn around and cut a new thread onto your material. It doesn't have holes in the sides for bars to go in so you will have to use a spanner or socket with it.The tap and die both have the sizes clearly marked on them and are easy to read while the drill bit is much harder to read the size which is a shame.Overall, for £9.99 its quite expensive when whole sets are around £30 so it needs a deal on it really to make it better value for money, plus the markings on the drill to match the die would make it much easier to tell its size. But it is well made and does a good job.

I currently have a tap and die set, but it isn't the greatest quality, and I am never quite sure which drill to use without using a micrometer.This is brilliant because you get a matching drill, tap and die, and the quality seems so much better than those I have already.This was the Toolant M8 x 1.25 Tap and Die Set, but I ordered several different sizes as I wasn't quite sure which I would need as there are often different requirements for them, they are all of the same style and quality.I like that these come presented in a cardboard box, with the tap and die size and drill size clearly shown on the box. I wouldn't have any problem recommending these.You will need a tap wrench for holding the tap if you haven't got one, but they are easy enough to find. You can use a spanner for the die.
