Sharpest Spine of Any Knife I've Seen
The stand-out feature for me is the spine. It's sharp and rough enough to strike fire steel rods better than a few of my dedicated fire steel strikers. I threw sparks over 6 feet with it. The rest of the blade is decent. It's my first 1066 steel knife, so I have no experience with its durability, edge retention, rust resistance or difficulty/ease of sharpening. It's a drop point with a smooth belly (perhaps good for skinning?) and a scandi grind, about the same thickness as a Buck 119, and sharp enough out of the box to make feather sticks. However my 119 is noticeably sharper and makes feather sticks more easily, so there is room for improvement. Fortunately that highlights one of the scandi grind's strengths: easy field sharpening. Can't wait to try it.Beyond the blade is an excellent handle and sheath. The wood handle is well contoured, smooth, and very comfortable. A little thin for my hand (XL), but the length is about perfect. No pommel; instead the butt of the knife smooth, allowing you to comfortably push hard with one hand and twist with the other. Great set-up for tasks like making bow drill divots. It's way more comfortable than my dedicated awl.The sheath is very thick leather that grips the handle tightly ... very tightly. I'm hoping it loosens its grip with use, because as-is I need both hands to draw the knife.Overall it's a great piece, but when you add the fire steel and consider the price, this is a home run.

Great value, I mean 40 bucks!
The first thing I noticed was the Scandi grind on the blade, very sharp, and the grip size of the handle, fit in my XXL hands. The scales were made of a tight grained wood and had no flaws. The ferro rods handle was made from the same wood and had a very tight fitting tube on the leather sheath. The dangler style sheath is very well made, no loose stitches. I added a lanyard to the knife and rod for ease of deployment. I put mink oil on the sheath for long term protection. I would highly recommend this lightweight knife combo!

Kind of unfinished.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a very functional knife. There was no lanyard on the knife or the ferro rod and neither were inserted into the sheath. So it isn’t form fitted. That’s not a problem. Shove it in and wait over night. I wrapped the handle in paper and stuck it in the sheath so it can form a tad larger for ease of use. But the blade looks like it was not ground to completion and looks like someone tried to hand sharpen it, I don’t think that’s the case though. So it was sharp but not razor sharp and some parts of the edge were sharper than other parts. But I enjoy sharpening knives so I’ll tackle that tomorrow. Now I did hit it on a leather strop about 10 strops on each side and that did help a lot. It will shave hair with ease now. The handle is plain wood. No treatment but the fit is nice and tight. I can stain the wood or polish it, just depends on what you want. So for a scandi grind, high carbon steel blade, for the price, it’s a good deal. The backbone of the blade is a very nice 90° angle and sharp and it will strike a ferro rod nicely. I tried that and it’s great. The leather sheath is good leather but no drain hole. I can fix that with a small drill bit. Now I’m guessing had they fixed all this before shipping it out, the price could easily have been more than doubled. So I’m good with it as I can work on it and sort of customize it to my preference. Has a good feel in my hand too. I can’t give it 5 stars due to all I listed above, but it has the potential to become a 5 star knife with a little time and again, I enjoy these things. It’s not heavy but it’s also not light. Meaning it feels like quality material. Balance is around the front handle screw. Definitely a keeper.

Rad Dutch knife
I just got it so here’s first impressions, as soon as I held it it was an instant classic. It’s very comfortable, the handle and blade shape are great designs. It was designed by Dutch Bushcraft Knives so you know it’s gonna rock plus it’s made by BPS. I have large sized hands and it fits great. The sheath is I think the best sheath I’ve seen from BPS, plus you get a firesteel?? Cool. I like the updates from the original version. I didn’t get the first one because it wasn’t scandi grind but they fixed that and made the sheath better. For under $50 I don’t think there’s any other knife you could get near this price point that parties this hard, GET THIS KNIFE.

"Knife Good for Rabbit, Not for Tree"
Knife come shiny. Look sharp. Make man think, “This good blade. This strong friend.” But blade lie. Blade weak in belly.First time Me take knife to tree—small tree, soft like young deer—Me give baby strike. Just tap tap. But knife handle say “Crack! Wiggle!” Screws no stay. Screws dance in hole like drunk tribe chief.Me think, “No worry. Me fix.” But when tighten screw, screw no grab. It push wood down, make ugly hole. Wood squish like bug under foot. Handle not flat no more. Handle feel like snake skin—bumpy, strange. Grip feel bad. Blade feel loose. Trust is gone.Me no even fight big wood. No battle. Just tap tap. Knife still fail.Me say: good knife for baby task. Cut apple. Skin fish. Whittle stick for fire roast. But no smack wood. No baton. Blade not warrior.

Awesome Blade with an Awesome Sheath
BPS makes awesome knives and their sheaths are amazing. I just got the DBK model and I am truly impressed. I did a few things to make it perfect.1. I used my Ken Onion Sharpmaker to clean up the edges on the handle, I left the blade area alone as it has a perfect 90 degree spine.2. A few coats of Danish oil on the wood handles including the firesteel handle.3. Took off the black coating on the firesteel with the Sharpmaker.3. I drilled a 5/32 drainage hole at the bottom of the sheath4. Used Mink Oil on the leather. The results, perfection! The blade is amazing for as little as I have owned it but very nice design. The sheath is awesome and for the price, you can't beat this. The sheath has a belt loop and also a dangler that includes a piece of leather for the firesteel. Beat that for this price, really nice job BPS Knives! Best bang for the buck as far as knives go.
